The 7447 binary to decimal decoder is a digital IC that has a 4-bit binary input (D,C,B,A) and an output that drives a 7-segment display (MAN72A). In order to obtain any digit from 0 to 9 on the LED display, the equivalent binary needs to be input to the decoder chip. This allows the LED display to change without physically adjusting the LED inputs. The function that a 7447 integrated circuit would perform in a digital circuit is that it interprets an input code. For example, a binary code like 1000 and it activates a single output to signal the presence of the code (in the form of decimal value-so it would display the number 8 on a 7 segment display). The output, the decimal value is recognized by humans unlike the binary code which is very difficult for the common person to understand. This integrated circuit can be combined with a display (such as the 7 segment-display) and can be placed in common technological devices such as watches, clocks, microwaves etc.
